Scorpio, we may have made it to January 2024, but in astrology the astro new year doesn’t begin until the third week of March, when the equinox strikes and Aries Season begins. So we’re technically still in the midst of the current ’23 – ‘24 astrological year, and we don’t have to put pressure on ourselves this month to be on a “new year, new me” type of vibe. However, as the year 2024 begins we can celebrate that fact that Mercury, the Planet of Communication, will have ended its three-week retrograde in the sign of Sagittarius (and Capricorn).
On top of this, Jupiter, the Planet of Abundance, will be direct in Taurus as the new year begins, and since Jupiter’s retrograde influenced Scorpio’s partnership sector these past four and a half months, many of us will feel like our relationships are off to a fresh start. The Cancer Full Moon that occurred at the tail end of 2023 served as an opportunity to drop the dead weight, and you’ll continue to lighten up psychologically and mentally during the first ten days of January.
Once the Capricorn New Moon strikes on the 11th, the fact that the Sun, Moon, Mars, and Pluto will all be in Capricorn and activating our communication sector means that we’re likely to reveal a major decision or mission between January 11th and January 21st, making that the best period of time for setting your new year intentions or resolutions. Mercury’s re-entrance into Capricorn on the 13th will help solidify the foundations we need to grow, and will lead to your thinking style being more serous.
This is a month for the books, because not only will our ruler Mars switch into Capricorn on the 4th and spend the next six weeks there, but on the 20th — the first day of Aquarius Season — our other planetary ruler Pluto will shift out of Capricorn and re-enter Aquarius, where it will remain until September 2024, and then return once more in November 2024 (after that final return to Aquarius it will remain in Aquarius for the next twenty years). Scorpio, we are increasingly entering the Age of Aquarius, so no matter how you feel about Aquarius placements (and check your birth chart because you may actually have Aquarius placements in your natal chart without knowing it… I have a Saturn in Aquarius, for example), we’re all going to feel the influence of Aquarius energy, kind of like we felt from 2020 to 2023 when Saturn, the Planet of Challenge, was in Aquarius.
But since we’re ruled by Pluto, the Pluto in Aquarius transit will feel like a super-personal lesson that the Universe is asking us to learn over the course of the next twenty years. You can pace yourself throughout this process, which will undoubtedly make you uncomfortable because Aquarius energy squares off (creates astrological friction) with Scorpio energy. But it’s through facing the discomfort, acknowledging what you still have to work on, and highlighting your strengths during moments of crisis or confusion that you’ll grow most as the year begins. 2024 is not going to be a perfect year.
